GET MOVING MANCHESTER 2019 WINNING SCHOOLS

School Food and Nutrition Services is proud to announce our Get Moving Manchester program winning schools! Congratulations to Parker Varney and Highland Goffe's Falls Elementary Schools for having the highest participation for all 4 weeks of the program.

Get Moving Manchester is a 4-week nutrition and physical activity school based program for students in grades 3-5. The program began on Monday, March 18 and ended on Friday, April 12

Get Moving Manchester demonstrates how parents, guardians and teachers can play a major role in influencing the overall health and wellness of our children/students. By making smart choices together, parents and teachers can set an example for a healthy lifestyle. Research shows that children’s behaviors are learned through the observation of others.

The program was made possible by our sponsors: Manchester School Food and Nutrition Services, Catholic Medical Center, Dartmouth Hitchcock Manchester, Anthem, Anagnost Inc., Palace Theatre, Fisher Cats and Bike Barn.

GET READY FOR MARCH - NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH!

National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. In addition, National Nutrition Month® promotes the Academy and its members to the public and the media as the most valuable and credible source of timely, scientifically-based food and nutrition information.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day, also celebrated in March, increases awareness of registered dietitian nutritionists as the indispensable providers of food and nutrition services and recognizes RDNs for their commitment to helping people enjoy healthy lives.

2017 NNM Theme

"Put Your Best Fork Forward" is the theme for NNM 2017 which serves as a reminder that each one of us holds the tool to make healthier food choices. Making small changes during National Nutrition Month® and over time, helps improve health now and into the future. As nutrition experts, Academy members can help guide the public on gradually shifting toward healthier eating styles by promoting NNM activities and messages during March. Be sure to visit the Academy's National Nutrition Month® website during the upcoming months for new and updated resources to help make the NNM 2017 celebration an infinite success! National Nutrition Month 2015

The National Nutrition Month (NNM) theme, “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle”, is the 2015 theme sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The theme is based on research
that shows people purchase foods that taste good over foods that are nutritious. This year’s theme encourages Americans to adopt healthy eating and physical activity plans that are focused on fewer calories, making informed food choices, and getting daily exercise in order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of chronic disease and promote overall health.

Based on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines recommendations and MyPlate messages, NNM is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. For more information on NNM and promotional resources, visit www.eatright.org.
