CINNAMON SUGAR PUMPKIN SEEDS PACK A HEALTHY PUNCH

Like other seeds, pumpkin seeds are packed with healthy nutrients and are a great treat to satisfy your crunchy cravings. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of magnesium which is important for bone formation, omega 3 fatty acids that aid in maintaining good heart health, antioxidants which can help reduce inflammation and fiber that can help maintain a healthy weight by keeping you feeling fuller longer. Here are some easy ways to make these seeds just a little tastier!

 

                            Cinnamon Sugar Pumpkin Seeds

4 servings

                                        

                               Ingredients

                 2 tbsp. butter                                2 c. pumpkin seeds

                1 tsp. cinnamon                            2 tbsp. sugar

                                Directions:

            Preheat oven to 350° F. As the oven heats, melt butter in the microwave in 20-second                    intervals  until it's fully melted.  Scoop out the seeds from the pumpkin, rinse and dry.                    Toss pumpkin seeds in the melted butter  to  coat them, then toss with cinnamon and                     sugar. Spread the seeds out on a parchment-lined  baking  sheet and roast for 25 to 27                     minutes, or until lightly golden.

Mulled Holiday Cider


A warm and fragrant addition to any festive fall or winter event.

Servings: 10
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 45 minutes




Ingredients
2 quarts apple cider
4 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
1 Tablespoon whole cloves
1 teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon allspice
6 pieces orange peel

Directions

  1. In a stock pot, combine all the ingredients. Simmer for 30 minutes. Let cool a bit and strain. Serve warm or cover and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Reheat and serve in mugs.

NEW MENU ITEMS COMING THIS FALL!

School Food and Nutrition Services is featuring some new menu items this fall. Try our pizzeria pizza, home style macaroni and cheese and southwest chicken on a taco boat! In addition to our daily menu items, there will be a salad of the day. Salads include chef's salads with turkey and cheese or ham and cheese, Romaine salad with chicken or spinach cheese with egg and cheese. Food and Nutrition Services will continue to provide a sandwich of the day and sun butter and jelly sandwich on flat bread with a cheese stick. Check out our menu on the school district web site under departments and food and nutrition services.
